Court stops KWHA from re-appointing Jummai Kperogi as Contract Clerk to the House

The Kwara State High Court has granted ENetSuD’s prayer for an interlocutory injunction to restrain the Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA), its Speaker, and its Commission from re-appointing Hajia Jummai Kperogi as a contract staff and Clerk to the House pending the determination of the motion on notice filed by ENetSuD.

ENetSuD informed the Court that the KWHA, under the leadership of the Speaker, has concluded plans to further re-appoint Jummai Kperogi as the Clerk to the House for the 3rd term in its next sitting on 4th April, 2023 while the suit challenging the legality or otherwise of her previous appointment is still pending and awaiting judgment from the Court.

It will be recalled that Jummai Kperogi retired from the Civil Service of the state on 29th September, 2021. Consequently, the House appointed her as a contract Clerk for an initial period of 6 months.

Upon expiration of the initial 6-month contract appointment as Clerk, the House further re-appointed her for the second term to continue serving for another one year, which ended on 29th March, 2023.

The application of ENetSuD for the interlocutory injunction was heard today and the prayer of ENetSuD for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the KWHA, Speaker, and Commission from renewing the contract and/or reappointing Jummai Kperogi as the Clerk of the House pending the final determination of the motion on notice was commendably granted by the Court.
