14 CSOs, 8 INDIVIDUALS MONITORED PALLIATIVE ITEMS OF KWARA GOVERNMENT

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led the Federal and State Governments in Nigeria to enforce a lockdown order on citizens in order to control the spread of the virus. In a bid to support the poorest of the poor citizens that were mostly affected by the lockdown, the Kwara State Government initiated the distribution of palliatives (food items and money) to citizens.

The government set up a COVID-19 Palliative Subcommittee chaired by HRH, Alh. Haliru Yahaya, The Emir of Tsonga. The committee has Dr. (Mrs) AbdulBaqi Saudat, Mr. Lawal Oloungbebe, among others as members. The committee, through Mr. Oloungbebe, contacted ENetSuD to mobilize Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that will help in the monitoring of the exercise for transparency and accountability purposes. Thus, ENetSuD approached the following sister CSOs and NGOs who eventually volunteered to collaborate in the monitoring exercise and were incentivised with a daily payment of 2,500 – 3,500 naira whenever the activity was done:
